He Will Shake the Earth for You!

God will shake the earth for you!

Yes, you read that right. God will literally move the earth to attend to your needs.

I read this in the Bible from Psalm 18, and it marveled and encouraged me. Psalm 18 is one of David’s most popular psalms and most of us know the first and second verses of the psalm:

I love you, Lord; you are my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;
my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
He is my shield, the power that saves me,
and my place of safety.

But I came to discover the gist of this psalm when I studied it recently. As he went further down, in verses 4-6a, David said, “The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help…”

David was going through tough times, so, he cried to God for help. And God answered him. Psalm 18:6 -

But in my distress I cried out to the Lord;
yes, I prayed to my God for help.
He heard me from his sanctuary;
my cry to him reached his ears.

Then David describes how God responded to him and came to his rescue when he heard him cry for help. Let’s read:

Psalm 18:7-19 -

Then the earth quaked and trembled.
The foundations of the mountains shook;
they quaked because of his anger.
Smoke poured from his nostrils;
fierce flames leaped from his mouth.
Glowing coals blazed forth from him.
He opened the heavens and came down;
dark storm clouds were beneath his feet.
Mounted on a mighty angelic being, he flew,
soaring on the wings of the wind.
He shrouded himself in darkness,
veiling his approach with dark rain clouds.
Thick clouds shielded the brightness around him
and rained down hail and burning coals.
The Lord thundered from heaven;
the voice of the Most High resounded
amid the hail and burning coals.
He shot his arrows and scattered his enemies;
great bolts of lightning flashed, and they were confused.
Then at your command, O Lord,
at the blast of your breath,
the bottom of the sea could be seen,
and the foundations of the earth were laid bare.
He reached down from heaven and rescued me;
he drew me out of deep waters.
He rescued me from my powerful enemies,
from those who hated me and were too strong for me.
They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress,
but the Lord supported me.
He led me to a place of safety;
he rescued me because he delights in me.

Did you see that? The drama. The effect. The beauty in how our God – the God of all the earth - came through for David, his beloved. God didn’t just show up to rescue him from his enemies quietly; He did it in grand style. He did it with all the heavenly grandeur. [I feel like screaming… whoop whoop!!!]. For sure, David’s enemies knew they were in trouble. They knew for sure that he had “backing.” Oh, King David was not alone; he was surrounded. The One who supported him, the One who showed up for him, the One who stood for him was no ordinary Ally.

And this is the same for you, child of the Most High God. The One who stands for you, whom you call your God, who loves you with an everlasting love, is no ordinary Defender. He is the God of all the earth.

And you know what’s most amazing? Nature will move for you when He moves. Did you see how many elements of nature were mentioned in the above scripture?

My goodness!!! God will literally shake the world for you.

So, I ask you: why are you worried? What is that obstacle that has threatened your strength? What is that circumstance that has robbed you of your peace? Who is that person that has questioned your faith?

Is God your Father? If He is, fear not! He is for you and will do whatever is necessary to deliver you from trouble and grant you permanent victory.
