10 Cool Things About Christianity

5 Min Read

Many years ago, when I was in Graduate School in Texas, I went out on an evangelism trip with a girl [who I would call Eva for the purposes of this post]. That was the first time I met her and the first time I did campus evangelism with the group in Texas. While Eva and I were out preaching the gospel of Christ, we met a girl who said she was raised Catholic, but now that she was older, she was trying to decide what religion to get plugged into. Eva and I (well… me – mostly quiet, because it was my first day) shared what we believed about God with her. Everything was going well until Eva ended with:

“And you know, the cool thing about Christianity is that once you accept Christ, you can stop trusting God and you’ll still go to heaven.”

I was dazed – too dazed to speak. I wish the ground had opened and swallowed the concrete chair I was sitting on… with me on it.

One thing I knew for certain was that Eva didn’t mean any harm. She had just misunderstood (or misapplied) the doctrine of eternal security. Although now I wish I were bold enough to speak and correct what she said. Because, really, how can you stop trusting God and still call yourself a believer? What exactly are you believing in? It has been over 15 years, but that moment has still stayed with me. Later, however, after learning more about my faith, I came to realize that there are actually really, really cool things about Christianity.

So, here’s my (very short) list of ten cool things about Christianity:

Feel free to add yours in the comments 🙂

(1) It’s Finished Before We Even Started: Jesus started and completed the work of salvation for us, even before we knew we needed saving. Romans 5:6-8; John 19:30

(2) God Sees Christ in Us: When God looks at us, He doesn’t see our mistakes and failures; He sees the righteousness of Christ, and that satisfies Him. Romans 5:1; 2 Corinthians 5:21

(3) We Are Secure in Him: We have eternal security. No power of hell and no scheme of man can snatch us from His hand. John 10:28-29; Ephesians 1:13-14

(4) We’re Already Blessed: We don’t need to pray for blessings; we are already blessed. What God expects of us is that we receive the blessings that He has poured out on us by speaking them to life and walking in the reality of our blessings in Him. Ephesians 1:3; 2 Peter 1:3

(5) Nothing Can Separate Us from His Love: We are assured of the Father’s unconditional love. Nothing can separate us from it. Romans 8:38-39

(6) We Share in Christ’s Inheritance: We share in what Christ has; we are joint heirs with Him. Romans 8:16-17; 2 Peter 1:4

(7) We Walk in Authority: We have authority – Christ’s authority. What we declare in alignment with Him carries weight on earth and in heaven. Matthew 28:18; Luke 10:19; Mark 11:23; Matthew 18:18-19

(8) We Are Positioned Above: We are seated with Christ in heavenly places; far above every power and authority. In the words of Kenneth E. Hagin, we’re looking down on the devil. Cooool!!! Ephesians 1:21; Ephesians 2:6

(9) Royalty Is Who We Are: For those of us who have ever dreamed of being royalty – good news: we already are. And we’ll be adorned with heavenly crowns. Revelation 1:6; 1 Corinthians 9:24-25; 1 Thessalonians 2:19; 2 Timothy 4:8; 1 Peter 5:4; Revelation 2:10; James 1:12

(10) Christ Is Our Life: It’s not ours anymore. And as He is, so are we in this world. Even more, when we see Him, we shall be like Him. Colossians 3:3–4; 1 John 4:17; 1 John 3:2
